The Workstation team now has an official public-facing blog :-)
You can even read about a major project I've been working on for the past year or so.
Ever since I moved to California in 2005, I've been wanting to learn Spanish but I wasn't sure how to go about it. A few months ago I heard about these schools in Antigua, Guatemala that offer very flexible and inexpensive Spanish immersion programs that combine individual lessons with field trips and a chance to stay with a local family. I then spent the next few months trying to convince friends to make the trip with me. This weekend I was at a party when I overheard one of my friends mentioning that she too wanted to learn Spanish in Guatemala but couldn't find a travel buddy. You can bet I jumped on that pretty fast! Consequently, we're both going to Antigua, Guatemala for a couple of weeks starting in early August and will be taking classes at one of the Spanish schools there.
I will be in Waterloo on Oct 11 for a VMware info session. If you will be there too and would like to see me, sign up below. This offer is for one day only and may not be extended or used in conjunction with any other offers.
Please take my very brief (just 3 multiple choice questions) survey about how you manage your personal information (contacts, events, tasks).
What's a major world event that occurred during your lifetime and had a significant impact upon your life?
I returned from my trip to Australia a few days ago and have documented my adventures and observations. Those among you who prefer visual narratives may wish instead to look at the pictures of me in Australia as well as the sights I saw.
Since returning home I have been to hear an excellent local horn band called Sinister Dexter and helped a local non-profit organization called Magic to plant native grass on the Stanford campus.
Take a cue from
stangerous, I hereby do request that people point out stuff I may have missed from the following list of stuff to take with me when I leave:
We don't have a clothes dryer here so I've been hanging my clothes out to dry on a clothes line in the back-yard. This week, however, it has rained just about every day since I did laundry on Sunday afternoon. As a consequence, my clothes have not dried yet and I slowly am running out of clean clothes to wear. Hopefully tomorrow will be dry and sunny.
And here is the important part of this entry: I will be in Waterloo during the day on Sunday the 18th of December. Anybody who is still around is hereby invited to hang out with me. Kewl stuff will happen.
While talking to Christian at work today, I discovered that VMware has recently formulated a corporate blogging policy in anticipation of adding a planet to the much-vaunted VMTN. Since I have a blog anyway, I signed up to have it number among the feeds that will comprise the forthcoming Planet VMTN (or whatever they decide to call it).
Consequently, I'll be including more technical entries to supplement the personal ones that currently dominate this blog. They will be marked with the "vmware" tag.
There will be one last hurrah for me (before I move to California) this Friday evening at the Green Room in TO on the South side of Bloor halfway between Spadina and Bathurst. Anybody wishing to see me one last time before the Yankees have their way with me is encouraged to stop by between 7:30 and 10 pm.
I bought Hymns of the 49th Parallel in class today upon a recommendation from my prof. I'm listening to it right now and it seems pretty good, although my impulse iTMS purchase has me a tad worried.
