Performancing are violating their own privacy policy
Contrary to their own privacy policy, Performancing appears to have allowed an unscrupulous 3rd party to obtain the unique email address I used when registering for an account with them:

Thanks for the tip; I'll be sure to avoid these folk in the future.

You said you removed some lines to protect your email address, but I think it's still present in the message trace!

The addresses still visible are heavily filtered for spam. I have multiple levels of email indirection.

I never read privacy policies - if it's a site I don't trust (which is most of 'em) I give them a hotmail userid that I never check. It's worked well so far, but the spammers have still found me. I don't particularly like my ISP, but I have to admit that their spam filter is excellent - maybe one spam a month gets through.

You obviously suspected something about these guys - is it habitual or you just had a hunch?

It's habitual. Unless I have a very good reason to trust a website, I give them a unique email address at my domain. If I discover that it's been leaked, I just add a procmail rule to block it entirely.

I used to do that too, and still do use unique email addresses for sites, but I recently had to switch to a whitelist instead of a blacklist.

Spam has gotten much worse than it used to be.
